Angel Harper was named one of the top 100 Latino Comics in 1997. A very ironic honor to her obvious African-American appearance.
She is originally from Harlem, in New York City. Her mother was born in Havana Cuba and raised in Kingston, Jamaica. Her father
is from Hookerton, North Carolina. She enjoys her ethnic mix and shares the humor of her heritage with her audience.
Angel has appeared in all the top comedy clubs in Los Angeles and won numerous prizes for her stand up routine about being a single
woman. She doesn’t limit her humor to her ethnicity. In her early years of comedy she was labeled the Classy Comic with a cutting
Edge. Her new approach to comedy is a mixture of her former comedy style and topical and conscious technique.
Angel received a Pre-med scholarship and graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Radio and Television
Production. Following her education, she moved to Washington, D.C. There she enjoyed success in both
broadcast sales and acting.
She received two consecutive awards (“Achievement In Radio Awards”) for her outstanding work in the voice-over industry. Her voice
versatility ranges from commercials, narrations, ADR work and cartoons. In addition, she received an award for
Outstanding Achievement
from the American Women In Radio and Television for producing the documentary,
“Due Process of the Law”.
In 2000, she produced and directed the award winning short documentary
“Keeping the Faith with Morrie”. She continues to development
this short documentary to long form with the eye on taking it to PBS for distribution.
Upon her arrival in 1989, she has appeared in Soaps, Sit-Coms, television dramas and films. Angel’s one woman show,
“Starting Over”
placed in the finals of the playwright division in the 1995 Talent Fest Competition. She is a winner of
“America’s Funniest People”
and she has appeared on BET’s “Comic View”. At the height of her acting career Angel self-published the book,
“Master the Art of Cold
Reading". As the producer of Smile Productions she created the show,
“Comedy Flavors” (1998).
Angel is a credential (k-12) teacher with a Masters’ In Education. In addition, she achieved a certificate as a Teaching Artist from
the Los Angeles Performing Arts Center. Currently, she is working part-time as an On Location Teacher for television and Film companies.
